Hello, I am Nupur and have been a member since the past ten years or so. My son came home with 3 poulettes which they hatched in their 1st grade classroom ten years ago. We had to scramble and get a coop, figure out what to feed them, and just become chicken parents. To cut a long story short, my chickens free range in my 1/3rd acre yard, and sometimes as the wheel of life dictates, have been attacked and taken by Coyotes, Hawkes, and Racoons. We have replenished our flock twice over the years. But now only one of the chickens survives. And I am wondering whether it is time to hang up the baton.

Welcome Back to BYC. Only you know if it is time to hang up the baton. But you could change the outcome for your birds, if they didn't free range. Instead they could live longer & still thrive in a covered, secure run big enough for them all.

Welcome to BYC!
I am so sorry you are at the point that you are thinking of being done with chickens. You can always take some time off, but keep all the supplies and the coop/run. You may change your mind later on.
You may also find yourself building a large enclosed run to reduce stress and worrying about the flock.
