My bantam Cochins. 7 weeks now. NEW PICTURES =)

I could not help but seeing how the face of my Serama and your new chick have similar markings. And yes, you do take very good pictures!

I never thought Cochins, because the yellow one is sooo small. But who knows, I don't know much about bantams. I just hope if anyone turns out to be a boy, that the crow if very small

I know that bantams can crow very loudly but there is less of a chance that we will end up with a fog horn in the backyard. We had to re home our last rooster. It broke my heart.

It's a week later and they are developing very differently. The yellow one has start feathering out everywhere and her wing feathers are super long and big. They are just passing her bum. I really think that she might be a booted bantam because her wings are tapering towards the floor. Her comb has grown a bit too.
The black one has very short wings with much smaller feathers and is developing feathers much more slowly and just on her feet and legs. She has also grown these long pointed feathers on her knees that look like exhaust pipes

Her feet are very fluffy. I think she might be a bantam cochin, because the breed is slow to develop.
Does anyone know much about feather development? I will post a picture in a little while.

Ahh, I found out what the feathers on the knees are, vulture hocks. The description of a cochin states that they should not have these

I was thinking the black one might be developing a male comb... is it more pink, or does it just look that way in the picture? With my bantam cochins, the males were obvious by 3 weeks.

And my bantam cochins also have vulture hocks. I think it's common on hatchery birds. Good quality cochins shouldn't have them, but as my cochins have grown up, their vulture hocks don't show up at all, really. I had named one Cadillac because his were so huge they looked like tail fins on a 59 Caddy, and now I can only tell him apart by looking at the shape of his comb.

That's what I wanted to do, I was trying to think of some muscle cars. My first thought when I saw those things is "She has tail pipes!?"
I am happy they are cochins but I was just hoping they would be a much smaller breed, like seramas

I know they aren't but they were soooo tiny when I got them. I am just nervous about any roosters that will crow to loudly, I have been through it with a neighbor that threatened to kill our last unexpected rooster. I can't go through it again

Actually the comb on the black or yellow one hasn't become pinker, but the comb on the yellow one is growing and I can see itty bitty wattles

I don't think females have any comb do they??? But now that I looked it seems like the spot on the black one were the wattles should be is a little pinker that it should be

The cochin we had before had nothing. She was sooo sweet though, I do love the breed. She was literally a round ball of fluff

Here is a picture of her and her boy Lucifer
