My little Bantam RIR hen was in the barn pecking around on the floor and when I picked her up, she had a long horse hair coming out of her mouth. When I tried to pull it out, it wouldn't come! Then she started shaking her head and I just stopped trying to pull it. I got scissors and cut it off. Why couldn't I pull it out? Do ya think this could hurt her?

With all the weird stuff they eat constantly I doubt that the hair will have any effect on her. Mine are always eating stuff around the barnyard and never seem to have get sick. Just keep an eye on her!

You should never try to pull things from your animals. That also means never pull the icicle from your dog's bum or the ribbon from your kitty.

You did the right thing by clipping it and leaving it alone. The string or whatever can be in the intestine and pulling can cause cuts or even cause a prolapse of a sort.

Your chickie should be fine. She has probably eaten much worse!

A little off subject.. one of my dogs was having trouble going #2.. There was something funny looking hanging out. I grabbed a glove and helped. It wound up being a 15 inch long piece of fabric.. Have no idea where she ate it from. I told my Vet about it and he said I did the right thing! I've also saw a horse poop out a big black garbage bag. That was lucky!

Thanks, guys. I feel better. She's running around OK this morning. And by the way, ewwwww....my dog has had random stuff in her poop, too. You hate to look, but you hate to look away....
