Texas Hill Country!
My little cochin roo has hi sights set pretty high. He is in love

with one of my EE hens, she is one of the biggest hens I have! It is almost time for them to start laying no eggs yet. He has his little banty polish hens he protects but he never goes after them like he does Shelly (my one of 2 ee's) he chases her and then grabs her neck and just hold on while she runs around screaming!

Honestly it's a pretty funny sight! he is literally a 1/4 her size! Should I be concerned this might be hurting her? she doesn't seem to be loosing many feathers over it. It seem she is the only one he does this to I even have another ee he is not interested

if she feels pressured, she will teach him a lesson, but if she is fine with it, she wont do anything. a cochin and and easter egger would have some really cool

I am not sure he can pull of the act he is trying to commit! LOL! anyone know the signs of when they are going to start laying? I am getting impatient! their combs are not as red as the roosters, will they get brighter or stay a less subtle red? they are close to 16 weeks

My first yardbird is a cornishrock Tyson's escapee. Omelette is huge she has doubled in size from her butcher weight & lays an egg a day.

This morning for breakfast I found an embryo in my egg!

Here's the catch, my roo is a 10 week old banty, maybe 1/4 her size!

There is no way any other roo could've cuckolded him as he is very full of himself and deffinitely the alpha roo. I live in the 'burbs and inspite of a few of my neighboors having chickens we all keep ours confined.

I found Omelette in the highway (4 lane @ lunch) 5 May and it was more than a month before her first egg so I have to beleive it's Charlie's chick!

embryo? I have been worried about that sort of thing, but I have read if you harvest the eggs every day you won't have that problem is that true? does it take a while of sitting on the egg for that to happen?

Eventually, he WILL get through with the act he is trying to commit.

It takes banty roos practice but they will get the job done in time.

Yes, it takes a few days for an embryo to appear. But you can tell if eggs are fertile by simply looking at them.

ETA: By 'looking at them' I mean cracking those babies open.
