My barred rocks are eating their eggs, is there a way to stop this, if i get right out there when they are layed i am ok, but i work all days till 2 or 4. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

This is a very difficult habit to break. Some people try blowing out an egg and filling it with something objectionaaalbe, but this is hard to do as they eat most anything -- hot sauce does not bother them a bit. I recently read of filling the egg with one of the no-pick products that does taste bad to them - don't know how successful this was.

If they lay in the nests, the solution may be rollaway nest boxes:

thanx for the input....i am at a cross roads here. right now they are still inside the coop, and only get out once in a while, we have had alot of snow still. i am hoping that once they get out everyday they will stop this...still any more input is good, i talked to hubby about the roll away nest boxes, we are certainly going to give that a try...Thanx again

Are the egg shells soft or hard I know that my hens do peck at the eggs to make sure that they won't break, if the egg breaks they will eat it. I have dropped an egg in the pen and they go crazy for it. I would also check their feed are they getting enough protein or are they just board. I hope you find an answer.
