I set 31 of my own eggs today. This is most I have done so far. They are a mixture of standard cochins, bantam cochins and I hope a silkie or two. I only have one silkie hen laying right now maybe I can get one to hatch.

So here it goes again.

Woo hoo! Good luck on the hatch! I have been trying to hatch my own with varying results, due to operator error, believing everything I read, equipment failure and poor judgement and one time dropping an incubartor full...

but I have finally started to have good outcomes this past couple of weeks. I have three hovabators with turners and one empty one I am using as a hatcher, with no turner. I have one new one with a turner on standby just in case one of my other ones goes bust and eggs of varying staggered hatch dates in the other two with turners. You would think with all of that I would be busting with chicks, but I am only now just starting to get the hang of it. Sorry, got to rambling there... anyhow, GOOD LUCK on your hatch!!!

It should be quite a show when they start hatching. Good luck and be patient, three weeks can seem like a lifetime when you are hatching chicks. I put 34 in two weeks ago and only one is not fertile. I will be overflowing with new babies soon. Enjoy your hatch.

Nah, I keep a little flashlight and keep checking the humidity and temps several times a day. The set date is written on the top of the eggs so nothing ever slips under the radar. Whenever one batch is in the hatcher, I check the silkie club site to see when the next is due and just get ready for that batch to lay down on the right day after the last one hatches. This site is what makes it workable for me.
