I have a 17mo old black australorp that recently ( 1 1/2 weeks) started to loose ALOT of her feathers.... she has been broody in the past so missing feathers from her belly wasn't anything that surprised me but my family went away for the weekend (we had a chicken sitter) and when we returned she is missing feathers on her neck, back, chest, tail.... you name it! It seems like shes walking around with her tail hung low and is spending a decent amount of time sitting around.... We have had a rise in summer temperature arounf the low 90's. My other two RIR are not showing the same issues... they are full feathered and very active... and the same for my RIR rooster.... I'm a fairly new chicken owner, haven't had them thru all the seasons yet and haven't experienced a moult with them.... So I'm wondering if my australorp is just stressed due to change in routine and temp. which has induced a moult or if it sounds like something else more serious.... Any feedback is greatly appriciated...
Thanks

Your rooster may be pulling out her feathers (neck and back) during mating. Also, if the hen is listless, the other hens may be bulling her and pulling out her feathers too. Might want to separate her for a while and take the stress off her until she feels better. Then look into a hen saddle to protect her during mating.
