My broody coturnix quail

I’ve heard chickens make huge gross poops when they’re broody, I was not prepared for broody quail poop:

I saw that across the room and I thought she had pushed an egg out of the nest, that huge, bigger than an egg sized blob in the front left side is a HUGE poop!
Shana when she was broody i had her on the couch to give treats she backs up over the edge and lays a fat one for buttons

My kids just came and told me the living room smells like poop. So I go and scan for dog poo, with a 14 year old pug, it’s not really unusual to find a turd, she has no idea where she is most times. I look all around, and find nothing. Turns out Mihawk had just layed a huge broody poop haha.

day 6 still sitting strong.

So awesome! I have had some do some communal sitting, with 3 hens taking turns but they gave up too soon each time. I have been raising all my birds on the ground and I'm hoping that this newest generation will have a better chance with a broody. They have much more wild instincts and we're jumping and scratching while still in the incubator.

She pushed one egg out of the nest, it was developing great from what I could see, still had veins, but had a red ring so I guess it recently quit. She had 2 speckled eggs, one was the abandoned one, I took the other as well when she got up to drink, this way if any hatch I know they’re pure celadons, since the males were pure celadons. I’m hoping to get one that looks like Tiger Millionaire, and he was one of the males who fertilized those eggs, if I get a boy like him I want to be sure it’s celadon, sorry speckled egg. It was developing fine, and looked like a 6 day old egg inside when I candled it, so far she seems to be doing a good job.
