In my large flock there are many breeds of hens and one RIR rooster. One of the blue laced gold wyandotte hens went broody while I was out of town a couple days and wound up sitting on 12 of everyone’s eggs. I just let her sit and moved her to the new broody/brooder area under the poop board/roost bar. I was out of town again and yesterday evening when I went out for eggs, I heard chirping. Baby chicks!!! One egg (black copper marans’ egg) had hatched an adorable black chick. Another chick had hatched but died in the process it seems with some membrane on it still. There were still 9 eggs left. Not sure what happened to the other egg. I’ll be checking again in a bit.
Mama Hen seems pleased with the little one though it wasn’t her own egg that hatched. I never candled and just let her sit so it’s all a surprise.
