I understand that and yes I read the entire thread.I guess you didn't read the entire thread (I understand why you wouldn't) but Broody sat on and hatched chicks before. Naturally. The chicks hatched during the night and I found them dead in the morning. I didn't know at that time whether the rooster killed them, or the other hens, or what happened. I know now. . . .![]()
What you don't understand is that sometimes other Birds don't understand the Peeps from Chicks so kill them as they hatch. Generally a Broody Hen won't because her hormones are high enough to mother Chicks.
I'm sorry and understand your stress. Although I set all my Broody Hens up in separate Brooder pens till eggs hatch and reintroduce when 3 to 5 days old..
Broody has been broody since early June. That is one reason that I attempted to get chicks for her after trying to break her didn't work. It's been too long. No, the broody pen I put her in does not have a wire floor, although it is up off the ground. I thank all of you that were kind. By the way, she is sitting less and less.
