My Broody Hates Chicks . . . .

I guess you didn't read the entire thread (I understand why you wouldn't) but Broody sat on and hatched chicks before. Naturally. The chicks hatched during the night and I found them dead in the morning. I didn't know at that time whether the rooster killed them, or the other hens, or what happened. I know now. . . .

I understand that and yes I read the entire thread.
What you don't understand is that sometimes other Birds don't understand the Peeps from Chicks so kill them as they hatch. Generally a Broody Hen won't because her hormones are high enough to mother Chicks.
I'm sorry and understand your stress. Although I set all my Broody Hens up in separate Brooder pens till eggs hatch and reintroduce when 3 to 5 days old..

Maybe I missed them, but were these questions answered?

Was she setting close to the 21 day mark ? Generally if hens have set for 21 days they are most willing to foster chicks placed under them at night.

Was the brooder cage wire bottomed and up off the ground?

I will answer these questions and then I'm done. I'm feeling like some people are blaming me for being 1)unattentive 2)ignorant and 3)just plain stupid. I may be, but everyone, INCLUDING ME does the best they can, people don't limp if they can walk normally and I am no exception. Broody has been broody since early June. That is one reason that I attempted to get chicks for her after trying to break her didn't work. It's been too long. No, the broody pen I put her in does not have a wire floor, although it is up off the ground. I thank all of you that were kind. By the way, she is sitting less and less. Was out of the nesting box when I opened this morning and later just after noon.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks that other people think that way about myself. I guess everybody has been judged or something so we think other people think that way about us.
It's good that your hen isn't sitting so much. It sounds like what you are doing is working well. I should try it sometime when I have a hen who goes broody that I don't want to go broody.

I get it. I'll get over it. I just found out a few days ago that my brother has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and I'm a little ruffled and sensitive right now. By the way, Broody is no longer broody! The chicks "shut off" her hormone flow and she is no longer sitting in the nest box. She's up and out with the rest of the flock now.
