hi!
I had a broody hen that I put a fertilized egg under on aug 1. the chick hatched yesterday morning and we moved mama and chick to a separate coop that is adjacent to our main coop. The rest of my chickens have not laid an egg since. I think I have one other broody girl but the rest are up and about doing there thing. Has anyone had this experience?

thanks!

It's always best to leave mom and baby with the other chickens. The baby will be accepted pretty fast as mom will protect it, and if you separate them from the flock the baby will not be accepted until its grown . And even then you will go through fighting and pecking order. I says put them back with the flock. Also mine stopped laying for a while, I believe it was a mini molt.

hi!
thank you for your note!
If I integrate Mom and chick in with the flock how do I make sure that the hens don't get the chicks starter feed?
