My broody hen raising chicks journey!

I don’t have any questions (for once!) I just wanted to share pics of our first broody hen hatch/chick raising journey! I have only been a crazy chicken lady for one year (almost exactly) but this has been the coolest thing to watch in our chicken owning journey so far! My EE hen Anna hatched 7 out of 9 mixed breed eggs on 3/11 & 3/12. They are now almost 4 weeks old and they act just like miniature versions of our big girls! I have suspicions that the majority are cockerels but that is a matter for another day .

As for sexing, in the last four pics I see 4, clear chicks, and out of those four I see cockerels.

Yep, right now I’m thinking 5 of the 7 are cockerels. I will keep one since we currently don’t have a rooster, but I see lots of rooster rehoming in my future

I have been raising chickens for well over 30 years. I don’t think I will ever get tired of watching a broody hatch and raise chicks.

Thank you! You are going to love it!! It has really been the coolest thing to watch. And way easier than raising chicks in a brooder! Plus I’ve not had one instance of sickness or even pasty butt. They are strong and already have their own little place in the flock. I was anxious like you to see what would happen and I was THRILLED when I realized she had hatched 7 of the 9! She’s been a wonderful mama hen. I wish you lots of luck on your hatch!!
