Well, now ive seen it all ~almost!
My silky is due to hatch 6 eggs tommorrow and she has been moving some eggs out from under her and then putting them back under her again. The eggs were sitting about 8 inches away from her ( usually one at a time) then when I think she has thrown them out, she sits on them again.
Its really hot here, so hot I cant sleep, its 1.32am and I should be asleep but my MS effects my thermostat and I cant cool down unless I take a cool shower.
Anyhow Im wondering that maybe the hen is thinking that the eggs are getting too hot!!
Ill see what happens with the hatching in the morning, yippee!!!

Yes lucky I didnt take them away from her!!! they are due today, i am tempted to lift up her wings for a peek!!
She has her wings spread out so its looking good, she has a 100% hatch rate LOL
I always check anyway in case a peep is having trouble getting out.
I needed to intervene with 2 in the last hatch and they are both doing great.

Oh Boy, I feel really bad, I had a look under her, none pipping yet, due today, I found an egg with no number written on top like the others so I took it out and cracked it.
There was a chick with the egg sack attached, I watched him take his last breaths in my hand.
I tried to revive him with mouth to mouth and kept sac etc intact and have him wrapped up in a teatowel on a hot water bottle.
I cant see any movement now.
I killed him.
Damn I feel so guillty.
I cant understand how this egg was viable, I have a young roo who sometimes mounts the girls and crows once a week.
He must be doing his thing quietly and not tellling the world about it. And one of the hens started laying in the broodies box until I fenced her off.
These eggs were purchased from a silky breeder and They were all numbered 1 to 6.
So it looks like the hatch is a couple of days late due to mum rolling them out and in again. Interesting.
Ill know next summer.
We learn by our mistakes but i feel so guilty.

Oh, I'm sorry about your chick - we've all done those things that seemed like a good idea at the time, but ended badly.

Hope the rest of the hatch comes through OK for you.

Ok 2 hatched out this morning, One got stuck in there, membrane dried out but I got to her in time to help her out!!!.
Mikey and DH watched me zip her out, it was nice for them to see how they can be saved.
I put her in under mum to dry off and will check her in the morning.
More chicks to come but not pipped yet.
I have to put my hand in there and under mumma and feel around for fluffy things, fun!, mumma doesnt mind tooo much, only pecks me once. she's a sweety.
