My brown egg layer laid a white egg today. I know it isn't a nutrition or calcium issue. Ideas?

The default egg color in all hens is white. The pigment that hens use to coat the outside of their eggs all are produced by the hens body and the raw materials used for these pigments are stored inside the hens' body. A shortage or insufficiency in these materials can result in a brown egg laying hen laying a pure white egg although this is highly unlikely except in a laboratory setting because there is usually enough pigment to make a showing on the eggs' exterior. Age and time of year are both reasons that egg color lightens or fades.
