I thought maybe my buff was going broody on me until I checked her more closely today (much to her disagreement!). She has feathers missing from her head/neck which might be from the rooster or her fellow hens. She had this weird stuff on her comb, kind of like something strange is growing on it. it almost looks like mold??!!?? The outside coop has been pretty soggy due to lots of rain, although their inside area is kept clean and dry. All those other hens look fine and are acting normal. Anyone have any ideas?

I am not sure what is going on with your hen (or her comb), but wanted you to know I read your post and hope someone comes along soon with seeing something like this before. She does sound broody, but the comb has me a little concerned. Please keep an eye on her and let us know if you notice any other symptoms. For example, diarhea, unstable walking, etc. Also, Is she eating/drinking ok? What breed is she and how long have you seen her like this?

I haven' t the slightest idea how to post a picture. She is a b.o. and is the only one of my hens to go broody on me. She really does act broody and is rarely out of her box. I blocked off a few boxes and she was not happy. Her comb doesn't look any worse today and it is not white, rather blue/green on the tips. I'm just going to keep watching her.

what is the temp there?
could she be cold from sitting?..could the comb be turning blue from cold?

is she getting up and walking?
is she eating and drinking?
please describe her droppings..color and consistency.

please treat her for mites.

if she isn't getting up much..get her up and away from the box to eat, drink, "go", and exercise her legs, and watch how she does.
she could be broody.
