My buff orp chick looks droopy.

Sounds like coccidiosis. Is he all fluffed up and not eating her chick feed? Or drinking water? If she looks like this, and you are seeing dark red or black poop in the brooder, they probably have cocci which can kill them. You might go to the feed store and get some Corid to put in the water for 5 days. This will help with the cocci. So sorry about your baby. I hope she gets well soon.

she seems a lot better today! She was walking around eating and pooping and I think that that egg really helped. she is actually preening her feathers this very second. her butt really never was pasty and it doesn't look like mites. When I dipped her beak in food she acted as if she hadn't eaten in days. I wonder if the other chickens were crowding her out and keeping her away from the food and water. You guys are being really helpful thank you so much for trying to help me figure this out! Go BYC!

It turns out she was eating too much grass. It got stuck in her crop so we are giving her some scrambled eggs with olive oil.

Do NOT give oil. It will cause the grass ball to gum up even more. You want to add water. Water water and more water. Then massage the ball of grass to break it up.

Yes, grass can impact a crop, so try to limit the amount of long grass they eat.

The oil actually worked really well. She refused to drink water except for when I would rub some on her beak. She is way better now and is back with the other chicks and we haven't seen a problem since.
