Hello Everyone!
My name is Geri, I live in South Texas near Victoria. I have 4 kids (23, 19, 13, and 2). We have 5 cats and two dogs as well. I am sort of new to keeping chickens. This is my third year with them. My sweet husband of 20 years has put up with my flock even though he does not care for them pooping everywhere and digging holes. Ooops.
I am proud to say that my home, and all of my animals/birds survived Harvey while he decided to visit for what seemed like forever! In a panic we decided the birds wouldn't survive in their coop and put them in our garage and I am glad we did!
I got my first batch of chicks in the spring of '15. I currently have 26 birds. Probably more than I should! My flock consists of 6 Buff Orpington, 3 black sex link, 2 barred rock, 1 gold laced wyandotte, 3 silver laced wyandotte, 1 ideal 236, 3 Easter Egger (They were labeled Ameraucana but from reading up, most likely EE), 4 splash silkies, 2 showgirl silkies, and a mutt rooster.
I discovered BYC whilst looking up some issues I had a few years ago with my girls and have lurked for awhile, figured it was time I had better dive in!
This and birding are my hobbies. We live close to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and visit frequently.
