Glad to hear you made it through Harvey. I lost a few and saved a few of my birds to Harvey. Have a Yellow Golden male, I managed to save from the storm. I named it Harvey!

Greetings and welcome to BYC Geri! So glad you joined us. I'm in NE TX and didn't get a drop of rain from Harvey. Sorry the folks down south near Houston go more than enough! There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

G’Day from down under Geri :frow Welcome!

Thank you for a great introduction! :clap

We have recently relocated to a Cyclone area and my gals will be camping out in the bathroom if/when necessary ;)

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. You may find this one of particular interest:
Topic of the Week - Integrating Chicks into an Adult Flock

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Hello Everyone!

My name is Geri, I live in South Texas near Victoria. I have 4 kids (23, 19, 13, and 2). We have 5 cats and two dogs as well. I am sort of new to keeping chickens. This is my third year with them. My sweet husband of 20 years has put up with my flock even though he does not care for them pooping everywhere and digging holes. Ooops. :)

I am proud to say that my home, and all of my animals/birds survived Harvey while he decided to visit for what seemed like forever! In a panic we decided the birds wouldn't survive in their coop and put them in our garage and I am glad we did! :)

I got my first batch of chicks in the spring of '15. I currently have 26 birds. Probably more than I should! My flock consists of 6 Buff Orpington, 3 black sex link, 2 barred rock, 1 gold laced wyandotte, 3 silver laced wyandotte, 1 ideal 236, 3 Easter Egger (They were labeled Ameraucana but from reading up, most likely EE), 4 splash silkies, 2 showgirl silkies, and a mutt rooster.

I discovered BYC whilst looking up some issues I had a few years ago with my girls and have lurked for awhile, figured it was time I had better dive in!

This and birding are my hobbies. We live close to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and visit frequently.

Thank you for reading. :)

-Geri
