My BYC Story:

My chickens are doing great. The egg producing has gone down but i expected that. At 7 pm every night they all go
In. Today i had a scare. Found a lot of feathers near my house. I expected to find one of girls gone but they are all there. And i found alot of feathers in the back of the house a different color. Did they get scared or something? Any comments?

But there are a lot of feathers. I couldn't find any hens with bald spots. Lol but it looked they should have been two.

Hello again! All my girls are doing wonderful. They go in the coop every night on their own. I have 26 and 1 very happy roo! Yet I am only getting 6 to 7 eggs a day. Two of the hens are my originals Roxie and Rhoda. I have 15 hens 4 months old and a couple are starting to lay. 3 are 10 months but are moulting. They each have their place when they roost and they are getting along so much better. So why no eggs?

I found two nest in the woods. Unfortunately temperatures dropped and froze them. I found one of the girls getting on a next do I picked her up and brought her back to the chicken house. Before we got back she layed an egg in my hand. Lol that's a first! I found 26 eggs in the woods. Now I know where to check but how do I get them to lay in the house?

Hey! Just wanted to tell you what worked for me. I had only one hen and decided to get more so two months later I get another hen and two roosters. My hen did not get along with them at all! I didn't separate them completely, just during the day, then when it was time to roost I put them back together. I also liked to hand feed them together. When they fought I took my hand away. But after they stopped I feed them again. It was sort of like rewarding a dog for doing a trick! Please tell me if it works!

I integrated my chicks into the flock yesterday. They had been penned up along side the big girls so they could see each other for about 3 weeks. Everything has gone pretty well. It's fun to watch the littles learn to use the nipple waterer. I put a step under it so they could reach, but little Hershey (chocolate orp) likes to jump up instead. Cutie pie! Pauline (RIR) likes to show the littles that she's in charge, but she hasn't been trying to hurt them. I think it's a success.

I also moved my 4 little babies from the brooder to the "introductory pen" yesterday. Their first night outside was cold! I guess it didn't occur to them to go into the dog house and snuggle in the hay. But they kept each other warm and made it through. Boy are they happy with all the extra room!

I love my chickens! They are doing great! I had to hang the cage with the chicks to the ceiling of the hen house. They were too stinky in the basement! I let them run around the hen house when the hens are in the yard, it's pretty funny.

I'm getting about 7-9 eggs a day! Sometimes ten. One hen lays an egg 3 inches long and is a double yolk!

It's been a bit cold here in nc but we have the hen house facing south so they stay pretty cozy!

The girls know when I am bringing them a treat and they all run to greet me!

I am really enjoying them!
