I would not count on it, our cat set down in the yard next to an ant bed and the ants were crawling all over her tail. She never felt it, all the hail fell out, but the tail never "fell off" . If the tail begins to die, or never regains feeling, it would be best to amputate it, for the cats health.

Hi. My family and I have a cat who's tail is broken and the base. It still has feeling and he does move it a bit but it hurts, the vet says we should amputate. Is there any other option. His tail is part of his personality

Hi. My cat broke his tail at the base a couple years ago. Since it didn't seem to damage the nerves in his back or rectum, the vet put a bit of a splint on it (which lasted all of 2 days) and we just kept an eye on it. He uses his tail normally although it did take a while for it to return.

If the cat can't lift the tail or move it enough to get it out of the way when it potties, that is a problem. That would be the reason for amputation. I hope it didn't cause nerve damage and that your cat can move it enough to potty.

You don't want infection to set in so I'd say monitor it for a while then make a decision. Bob-tailed cats are cute too.
