I have a silkie baby Tara with a crooked beak she is only a couple weeks but seems to be adapting very well. We also have "Mongloed" I know not a nice name but we really didnt think she would make it. She is now at laying age waiting to see if she will lay eggs if not oh well she has a large tumor that has encased her left eye :( As of now she is not in pain and if the day comes when it affects her and causes her pain I will ball like a baby and we will put her down :'( She is a great lovie bird and a favorite of my children and me.

I also have a mutt brown chicken that I got with a crooked beak, she's older, who knows how old. But I dremelled it last night since it was getting a little overgrown. But other than that she's a plump little lady. The first one to catch mice and frogs!

I know this is an old thread but how do you teach a newborn cross beak to eat without drowning it? Thanks.

Thank you all for posting so that I know I'm not alone. I have a Chantecler chick that is 2 1/2 months old and I just noticed that she has a crooked beak. I know she didn't come to me like that and she has been eating enough on her own to stay alive since I got her in May. Since I just noticed it the other day, I thought it might have just happened but I don't know how she could have just gotten a crooked beak. I am puzzled about this. Does anyone else have a chicken with a crooked beak that happened later? She seems fine otherwise.

Awesome!! We have found one of Silkie babies to have a crooked beak..No problems eating or drinking as of yet..we are keeping a close eye on he/she. And will do what we can to accommodate.

I have one that has a crooked beak but it’s slight - only on the bottom. Should I try the nail clipper trick? My chick is 2 weeks old - but is eating fine - also, it literally just seemed to show up (the deformity) I’ve handled them daily and never saw it before today. Also, should I put a couple of rocks in their box for them to file their beaks on, or how does that work?
