My Chick has an Eye-Infection and I Don't Know What to Do!

I dont know if they make it any more, but terramyacin eye ointment. I would give it a try ona Q-Tip. It couldnt hurt. Also maybe put a lil terramyacin in her water.
I had a batch of chicks several years ago that got like this weird buggy eyed thing going..and I think could have just been too much amonia in the litter, but the ointment cleared it up,and every biddy recovered

Sometimes what I've posted before on this link and also still do when I notice anyone with a eye issue (me or chickens) will make a cup of salada (what I prefer) tea, let it cool down and with a cotton ball, squeeze it over the eye. I believe its the tanic acid, but its soothing for kids and adults that have pink eye or "colds in the eye" for kittens.
Also used it on abrasions to clean. I'm most certain your aware that some of these human meds could have lidocaine in them, like the Neosporin -not sure what the correct name is, or IF we could use it on our birds, but it can be a serious health risk to our avian friends.

P0U1TRYP3RS0N you made a super observation regarding the amount of ammonia build up! It doesn't take to much, just a nice warm brooder or even my hen house closed up over night, and I found the litter was still light, fluffy and had been changed within a reasonable amount of time, until I was down to chicken height off the floor, whew!

Terramycin is the best thing to have on hand for eye problems. I am a former vet assistant and I primarily work with dogs (I am a dog walker/pet sitter) and I tell ALL my clients to keep this on hand at all times. Otherwise, they'd be spending $150 at the vet for pink eye. I am new to chickens, but not birds. I think I can apply the same techniques for certain conditions as I go along. We have a great aviary vet right in town who LOVES raptors

and would get a kick out of me bringing her a hen now and then! I also agree with the tea treatment as well. Tannic acid is great for so many ailments. Sometimes simple is better.
