My 4 week old chick has yellow flaky skin umder one wing where all others and her other wing have baby fuzz. Her left foot also looks different. I thought maybe she burned it on the heat lamp somehow. Don't know what to do. She was walking around with the foot lifted up yesterday morning, we put Aquafor on it and she was acting normal ever since. Any suggestions? I'll try to get a pic or two.

Aquafor is a safe skin moisturizer. She may have just had dry skin.

I hope she didn't burn herself. Maybe find a better place for the heat lamp so you don't have to worry.

I am continuing with the aquafor, she loves when i put it on, she purrs and closes her eyes and lets me just stroke her under her wing and on her foot. I noticed a little small patch on the side of her face. The heat lamp is up high, but they are flying around so she may have tried to land on it. They are in a nice 4 hen coop in a heated garage. So they have plenty of room for now, until we move them to their permanent coop. I really will try to get some pics. She is not favoring the foot anymore. She is my favorite of my red pulletts...we call her Hot Rod because she had distinct white racing stripes as a baby. Thanks for the response.

]Would u mind taking a look at my new thread, I posted pics of what the chick looked like and more details. "Desparate for help identifying what is wrong with chick"
I would be so appreciative of any help or thoughts...

Thank you!

Sadly, after speaking with my local chick retailer (NOT TSC!), it was determined at first that Hot Rod may have a fungus. However, shortly after, she developed a wry neck again, started having problemswalking straight, secluded herself from the rest of the chicks and it was then thought she may have Cutaneous Marek's disease which can affect neurological systems and can be contagious. No other chicks show any signs of illness whatsoever. They were all bigger then she and much more active. We cleaned out the Coop completely, moved it to a new area. Cleaned EVERYTHING with very hot water, and put fresh pine shavings down. I just didn't want to take any chances. We are keeping our two, 1 week old Black Australorps and Buff Orpington in a separate area, since we got them and will continue to do so until I know for certain that no other girls were affected. We are getting an Aracauna, a Dominque, and a Buttercup next Monday and they will go in with the babies as well. Hot Rod was so friendly, she was the only one that would ALWAYS allow me and my children (3 &6 yr old boys) to handle her. But this last week, she wouldn't let me near her, Wwj ER n I did manage to get her out, she did relax but it took much longer then normal. I will miss her, but I have been told by so many, that losing a chick or two is far from uncommon. Still makes me sad.:idunno:(
