Hey All!
I noticed that my 9wk old chick, ButterKup, didn't come out from the coop when I opened the gate. I peered inside and she was just sitting on the roost bar....normally she follows the other 3 out. She is not moving much, she is eating a bit. I hand fed her mealworms and she is drinking water...little bit, but drinking. She looks puffy, like her chest is out. I felt her crop and it seems soft. I'm new to this, long time chick admirer, 1st time Mama. She has been just sitting all day with little movement. There is no foul poops at play and no foamy eyes...don't know what it could be. Also, I don't know her breed. I was told, but I forgot in all the excitement of getting my new hen babies. I attached a picture. Can anyone guess what's wrong with her and her breed? She has her own UGGS - she has feathers on her feet and legs. I'm worried. Is she brooding? I don't expect her to lay eggs for another few months.
Thanks.

She’s a light Brahma.
My white leghorn acted the exact same one day last summer. She sat under a tree like that for 4 hours and then she started acting normal again. I have no idea what it was. I figured she had a ‘bad night’ or something.

Thank you! I'm about to check on her again and hopefully she is more active. Now I will research light Brahma. I guess 'light' refers to the white color?

What beauties! Thank you.
BTW, ButterKup seems to be doing a bit better. Massaged her crop and it could be the problem, seems swollen; not like my other girls. Felt like something poking out and when I looked, she had a couple of broken feathers.

How is she doing?
What are you feeding, do you provide a source of grit (crushed granite)?

Check her crop first thing in the morning before she eats/drinks, it should be empty. If it's still soft, swollen or feel like it has food in it after a full night's sleep she is having crop problems.
Here's some diagnostic information for you:

Thank you Flock Master. She does smell on her head...sour. She eats mostly the organic chick starter and meal worms. I have ACV in one water. I'm fetching my coco oil and on my way to a house call!
Thank you again.
Will post her progress.

FlockMaster, It's been a while. I'm very sad for ButterKup. She got better two days after the post. Now We're back at square 1.
Her breast bone is pointy and sticks out. There aren't any worms in her poo. I bathed her bottom twice because her poo is runny and sticks to her. My other 3 are healthy, but she just not active and just sits or stands. I live in suburbia, the vets I called say they don't treat poultry. Not sure what to do next.
