My Chick Order

I also ordered from Ideal and the add said if I didn't order the min of 10-15 they add roos. What is up with adding roos with an order of under 25? My order ships Mon the 11th so I guess I will know soon enough. I don't mind the extras if I know they would be coming. I would have to put an addition on my brooder. John

Crooked,
the extra roos are for warmth like sfisher said.
It's still a little cool even in March and some of April, so they add them as a security measure.
When the weather actually warms up for good, I don't think its an issue.

Everybody be sure to post pics when you get your chics.

I had my first order from Ideal in December. Twenty five pullets, and no extras. Two of the 25 are roos, but I will keep one for breeding purposes. They were at the Post office next morning at 08:00.

Healthy and vigorous chicks.

I have another order of Black Broilers and white rocks shipping out on March 5.

Here in Washington they air ship and the 12 cents axtra is worth every penny.

They are going to air ship mine too. I was worried about the shipping time. They ship Monday and the first few days of the week it is not get much warmer than 20. Hope they don't freeze to death. (north east Ohio) John

I have an order coming from Ideal also. I believe they ship on the 20th.

I ordered:

3 Golden Neck D'uccle
3 Porcelain D'uccle
6 Buff Laced Polish
4 White Crested Blue Polish
2 Blue Swedish ducklings-standard run
2 Khaki Campbell ducklings-pullets
1 KC duckling-drake

And then I have an order from Welp's shipping the next week. I'm still tossing it around in my head, if I should call both hatcheries tomorrow and see if I can "delay" shipment for another month...I hate to think that the little guys/gals will freeze to death, just because I ordered them too early

I think some of the hatcheries have something like a heating pad placed under the chicks for the warmth.
It costs more for shipping but well worth it if it will keep the chicks from freezing.
I'm pretty sure mypetchicken does this, that's how they can ship as few as 3 in one order.
Instead of delaying by a month, you may can call them and see if they have this sort of thing you can add.

Meyer Hatchery does this also. I'm planning to use their "small order" program as soon as they have chicks available (hopefully some time this month.)

That does not sound good CROOKEDSTRIPE. can you call and postpone? It is too cold for the baby chicks. Talk to PAGANFISH, he had his shipped in the cold and lost a lot.
