My chicken ate my earring!

Hey all! This is my first post. I'm more of a reader/researcher here than a poster. But I have a problem that I need some advise on. My 7 month old BO chick ate my diamond earring Tuesday and hasn't passed it in her poop yet. I moved her to a temporary chicken tractor with two egg eaters (that quit eating eggs once they were moved!) so I could check her poop periodically. How long will it take for the earring to pass through her? Will it pass through? I had thought about cutting open her crop but I figured that would probably kill her and I don't want to do that. I hope it doesn't get stuck anywhere inside her!

Oh my, that's terrible! i'm honestly not sure if it will pass. It might depend on the size of the earring as to whether it might get stuck somewhere. Was it a post or a dangly and how big?

Sorry, this gets posted occasionally.
It is probably not in the crop anymore, It is in the gizzard. Eventually the diamond will pass, the rest most likely will get ground up in the gizzard. It is possible it might pass through the gizzard. I have no idea about the timing.

I read some thread where a chicken ate a thumbtack. It was suggested that the thumbtack might not pass and might stay in the gizzard acting as grit to grind food. Apparently all sorts of things have been found in chicken gizzards upon their demise. I do hope you get your diamond back though.

Depending on how much the diamond earring was worth, I might be tempted to eat the chicken and retrieve the earring in the processing of said bird. That doesn't mean I'd necessarily do it, but I totally would be tempted!

Wow, y'all are quick! The earring is a post and it's pretty small, about 3/4 of an inch long, and the post is 14 carrot gold.
I hadn't even thought about it getting stuck in the gizzard. Would the gold get ground up or disintegrate in the gizzard? I've been told by others (family) that I should have butchered her right away. She's so cute and friendly that I don't think I could kill her. I've butchered my meat birds so I do have the experience; right now I just don't have the heart to butcher her.

Maybe give her some plain yogurt, don't know if it will help but she'll probably enjoy the treat. Hopefully it will come out eventually.

if its worth it, maybe see if a vet would be willing to x ray her? Perhaps the diamond would be visable on xray and you can determine if its on the way out or what? Maybe?? wow.. what a quandry.

It took a couple of months for my wedding band to go thru one. Lost it unloading bales of straw. Found the ring a week after totally shoveling out the lot and washing it completely. No way the ring was laying there as thoroughly as I cleaned the lot. Had to have been in the chicken all that time. It was a little scratched looking but not damaged.
