The reasons that I would NEVER feed chicken or other fowl to my chickens are many. Any chicken meat that is grown in commercial operations where animals are crowded, subjected to many diseases and fed a constant diet of drugs , hormones, and antibiotics just to stay alive; well, I sure don't want to run the risk of feeding meat containing drug residue or disease-causing microbes to my flock. These same diseases can affect them because they are the same animals subject to the same things. Pet foods especially contain slaughterhouse wastes. There are just too many other choices to feed my flock than to risk their health and mine. Would you feed dog meat to your dog, cat meat to your cat, or horse meat to your horses? Yes, they will be "fine"-- heck, people can eat other people and survive. It i just not somewhere I would want to go.
Also, many diseases start or get spread from this practice. Mad cow disease is one that everyone has heard of.
Remember, you are not raising your birds in a vacuum. Disease can be spread by wild birds, wild animals, pets, and you to other people and their chickens.
