hey everyone. So my chicken blacky all of a sudden started falling down. When I got back from school I thought someone stepped on her legs and I waited two days for her to recover. I realized no one stepped on her legs and she had a problem. When she’s on the floor, she falls over and trys to get up and then just lays there. Her legs still have force and when I put her on the floor, she starts looking for food like any normal chicken. She’s about 10 years old and she’s my first chicken I ever got when I was 6. Please help :/

I am really sorry that she is having trouble standing or walking, but it sounds as though she may be injured or is starting to fail. I would place her in a dog crate or basket with food and water, and make sure that she can reach them when you are not there. Try feeding her food and water at least 3 times a day, and more if you can find time with school. You can make a fresh bowl of chicken feed mixed with water and a little egg, and try to get her eating that. Google chicken slings, since you could make one to place her in several times a day to get her upright so she could reach her food. If she doesn't start getting better soon, you may want to ask your family to put her down if she is suffering. It is sad, but it would be best if she is not feeling well or going to get batter. You should be commended on keeping her so healthy for 10 years--that is a ripe old age.

Aww... poor girl. Pretty awesone she made it to ten years old! I agree with trying the sling. Coukd she have a deficiency of some kind? I would try a good quality poultry vitamin supplement in her water, plus a little extra protein. Could she have hurt her legs jumping off a roost?

My brother has told me to put her down but I’ve never killed a chicken and I don’t plan on it. I still have pictures of her when she was just a chick, eating an apple and running around with a piece of bread. I’ve had lots of memories with her

i don’t think she fell off anything. She’s pretty old so all she does is walk around watching every chicken since she’s the queen of the coop. Plus I’ve never seen her jump before. I’ll try the vitamins with her though, thanks!
