My chicken died suddenly

About a week ago my chicken, Blaze, died of who knows what. She was missing all if the feathers on her breast and underside but there were no signs of scratches or marks of any kind. She couldn't stand or walk around much before she fell down again, and she was not eating or drinking. It could not be of age, because she was only about 2, and there was no sign of any animals or humans causing it. She had been laying eggs with watery whites and wavy shells every day. She was a white leghorn. Does anyone know what might have happened to her?

I’m sorry for your loss!

A Leghorn is a production breed and they tend to have reproduction issues. From the description of her eggs, she may have had reproduction tract issues. However, I’m not sure what type of issue.

we’ve had a few hens die suddenly ... no known issues before hand. One died a couple hours after being let into the run, during mid-step, it appeared, and it was her first “hatch-day” too, so she had just turned 1.

Go to you account details and indicate your location. The is better addressed in the emergencies subforum.

I would be looking first at parasite issues, both internal and external. Also need to check on feed quality. Are any others showing poor health?

This time of year mortality can be heat-stress related. All my hens are in lay show signs of heat stress before birds not on lay.
