So I went out to feed the chickens today, and my favorite chicken, Ethel, a golden laced Wyandotte, was dead. I'm not sure what happened to her but I think she might have been egg bound. I didn't notice her acting any differently but she hadn't layed an egg in about 3 weeks. I thought she was moulting but maybe not. I didn't know I could love a chicken as much as I loved her.

I lost my Rosie, the same breed as your Ethel, 2 days ago to what I believe was the same thing. She was about 6 years old and still was producing eggs every now and then. I am so sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is

@Rivenwood Aw I'm sorry! Ethel wasn't even a year yet
Aww I am sorry you lost such a young one. Rosie seemed pretty good, was a bit lethargic the day before she passed but the weather was starting to warm and it was a bit humid in the barn so I figured that was all. I should have checked her more closely. Live and learn. What she taught me, I can apply to the new kiddos I brought home yesterday. That's Rosie's legacy
