So recently I noticed little white spots on my chickens ear and this week it turned almost completely white. It doesn't seem to be affecting her health at all but I'm wondering if it's something to be concerned about. She is a barnvelder if your wondering the breed.

Some chickens naturally have white earlobes, some have red, some have a mix. A few have blue or green or yellow. The different colors do not cause any health issues, and the chickens do not care what color they have.

So no, you do not need to be concerned about it.

A Barnevelder is supposed to have red earlobes, so the white is "wrong" for her breed. That means she is not a good choice for entering in a chicken show or for producing high-quality Barnevelder chicks.

I am experiencing this with my flock right now and am trying to figure out if this is something I need to treat... like fungus.... what was your outcome?

You are welcome to post pictures, and you might also want to start a new thread. Is the problem on both sides? Fungal infection of the skin (favus) is usually on the comb and may spread. Favus is chaulky white to gray. Many chickens have color spillage on their ears that is perfectly normal.

I will try and get pictures later today. It's only on earlobes but more and more hens are getting it.

This is not my picture but looks just like this. And some starting to turn white. I have a 7 leghorns who I've had for 3 years and I noticed the other day that 3 of them have wite earlobes and a few others in my flocks are starting to turn white.
