The chicken eggs seem to be starting their development 2/7 eggs have started growing a ring with a red dot in the middle which I assume is early embryo development. Strangely, I candled my button quail egg after a couple days and the egg became extremely opaque with a faint red hue. There is no blood ring, the veins are still intact, but I am unable to see the embryo. Are my chickens developing and is my button quail still developing or is it dead? (Chicken incubation days so far: 1) (Quail incubation days so far: around 6-7)

A chicken egg on Day 1, I wouldn't even bother with as usually there's nothing happening. Try check your chicken eggs around Day 7 and then you'd see what I call a blob with a bunch of veins. Same for the quail.

If ever I have questionable eggs I'm not for sure are non-starters, or died, I put an X in pencil on them and put them back in the incubator. A week later when I check again, or right before lockdown, I take a closer look at any that have X's on and by then a determination can usually be made.

Is your incubator at 99.5F? Most of us use a second hygrometer/thermometer to double check as the incubators are usually off.
