My Chicken Eggs Keep Cracking Before I can Even Get Them!

Have you tried the fly larvas? I think it’s all kinda gross and dried out and nasty smelling and looking to be honest. I don’t blame them 😂 have you tried getting worms from your local bait shop? Or digging them up in your yard? Another suggestion, scrambled eggs? I cook some for my girls sometimes. No salt or anything of course. They love it. Sometimes I’ll throw in some diced tomatoes too!

And on thin egg shells, I’ve never had a problem. But here’s what I do, I will go to TS and get 4-5 different bags of feed and mealworms. A layer feed, a feather fixed, cracked corn, a scratch grain, and oats. A big bag of mealworms. I bought a giant storage container and just mix them all together. It costs about $150 every 3 months or so. my birds also get fresh veggies and berries. I’ll buy the giant value bags of frozen veggies and wild blueberries at Walmart. My girls eggs are almost too thick. We have trouble cracking them and it’s a hell of a time peeling them when we boil them 😅 I feed them veggies and berries mixed with their feed twice a day, and they free range the rest of the time. Sometimes I’ll get the tiny pre cooked shrimp and just thaw them out and throw it in with their meals also. I hope this helps! Good luck with your girls💕💕💕
This sound a bit nuts.

Oh thank you so much I will make sure to try this out! Just one quick question... my chickens don't like mealworms which is a bit silly since I know most chickens love mealworms. Do you know of any substitutes for mealworms?
If you ever try one yourself, you'll find it's an aquired taste.
But be careful, they are like Lays chips. Once you can stomach them, you can't eat just one! :gig

How? You get birds, it’s your responsibility to care for them. I treat my birds as if they are my children. Would you want to eat dry feed all day everyday your whole life?
And this is also on a budget too. I have 6 children also. I spend maybe $150 for 3 months of a giant storage container of mixed feeds that’s guaranteed to meet their nutritional needs. And if I happen to be at Walmart I’ll get a giant bag of frozen corn or mixed veggies and a bag of wild blueberries. It last about a week. Just mix a bit in their feed each day. And the tiny shrimp, $2.48 at my local DG. I also have ducks. I do this to ensure everyone gets all the nutrients they need. This isn’t wild, this is the reality of having birds. Everyone is different, but this is my birds diet.

I have 13 chickens, 5 ducks and 2 Turkeys at the moment. I store the feed in a giant storage container with a lid. It stays in my garage.

My chickens recently started laying around a week or two ago. Her shells seem to be a little bit thin but we bought alfalfa hay to give her more calcium. It seems that it is only one bird whos egg is cracking. We have three birds and the other two actually lay in the nesting box but it seems that the girls whos egg are cracking does not lay in the nesting box, because we find her eggs in the middle of the coup. Thank you!
Sorry but alfalfa ain’t gonna cut it 🤣

I’m not an expert and this is only my 2nd year, and I’ve managed to keep my originals with a few losses along the way and a few new additions too. I do this because a close friend of mine whom has had varies birds over the years and currently has over 200 told me this is what they do. Their birds are gorgeous. Never missing a feather or look sickly, always lay perfect eggs and have had great success mixing and hatching different sex links. I hope to be as knowledgeable and have as many birds as them one day. Also I hope any advice I give doesn’t really sound “nuts”, I’m just passing along others advice and my own personal advice. I want the best for all our lovely little feathered ladies and gents💕💕
