Thank you for all the warm welcomes! And this is a photo of my group of girls (at 4 weeks old) that are presently about 8/9 weeks old. They are from the local farm store, and they are just the best group I have ever had. So tame and they love me. Of course I spoil them terribly, so they'd better love me!
Greetings everyone! Just joined your group. Tried to get a picture uploaded of my chickies, but nothing happening. I'll try again later.
I have just purchased a new batch of standards and bantams. On hand in cages in my kitchen are Silver Laced Wyandottes,Red Cochin , Silver Laced Cochin and Gold Laced Polish (All standards). Bantams include Black, Blue,Red, Silver Laced Cochins and Blue Silkies. (29). Unfortunately 2 did not survive the trip from Texas. I order from Ideal Poultry since they are the closest to me in Louisiana. Don't want my chicks stuck in a box for very long. Coming on June 29th is another 50 chicks: Buff Brahmas, Dark Brahmas, Birchen, Golden Laced, Mottled, Partridge Cochins, Frizzle Cochin, Blue Mille Fleur D'Uccle (Dew Clay), Buff Columbian D'Uccle, Golden Neck D'Uccle, Mille Fleur D'Uccle, White D'uccle and Red Silkie Bantams. I am crazy for feather footed Bantams!!
I have been raising chickens for the last 4 years. I own ten acres with a pond so I have ducks and geese also. I love letting my chickens have free range, but alas the coyotes, hawks, owls and eagles took a toll on my flock. It was so depressing to come home and find another one missing or deceased. So I have started fencing them in with bird netting atop to keep out the flying predators. I love to sit outside in the evening and watch them chase the flying insects or bicker over a tasty worm. Well, sitting here is not getting those nest boxes finished, so I'm off to the garage to start on those. Take care, chickadees, looking forward to hearing from you and being member.
