You can get mineral oil at Walmart in the pharmacy section. I would try Goo Gone.

I would not use goo gone or any of the highly volitile solvents. Certainly they would likely work, but pretty toxic.

I think Goo Gone is made from the oil of orange peels. I don't think it's toxic at all.

I believe the orange is just a(n ineffective) masking odor.

Actually the orange oil contains limonene which is the main solvent in the orange scented products.

Any food grade oil will work. Vegetable oil, canola oil, corn oil, olive oil etc.

I think baby oil is mineral oil, isn't it? But any light cooking oil should be adequate and do the same thing. Good luck.

Vegetable oil works well; I used this once to get a wren out of a glue trap someone brought to me and was able to save a lot of its feathers. You can also try dawn diluted in water and gently try to massage the feathers clean - dawn is what they use for birds affected by oil spills.

FWIW, I used to work with a chemist who told me that if people knew what was in dish soap, like Dawn, they would freak out. I can't remember the chemical name, but I think it is an amine, which he said is very toxic. Freaked me out, but I still use the stuff; I just make sure to rinse really well.
