so she would be on a cement floor because of how big the holes are if we took the plastic out - would chicken wire work?

I had to add smaller meshed wire on the bottom of my dog crate....I think Krista did too.

You could also just give her some very wet chicken chow too, enough to eat up in about 10 minutes a couple times a day, that's what I did.

ETA she'll be fine at 5C.

The alternative, if you don't have a cage big enough, is to either borrow a crate from a friend or corner off a section of your coop or a garage to contain her.

You would need to follow the same process - remove all bedding and hay so she can't make a nest, and provide plenty of feed and water. It might take a little longer to break her but it would be worth it if she had enough room to stand up and move around a little.

I feel for you. It's hard work breaking a broody. Good luck!

Well, if she's in a wire cage and it has a fine wire base, raising it up will help. I just chock mine up onto some short blocks or bricks - it doesn't have to be way up in the air.

If you elect to put her in a separated corner in the coop, obviously you can't raise her up.

Where ever she is, just make sure she has some room to move about a little. She shouldn't be cramped up or unable to stand, and she should be able to walk a few paces. And make sure she has access to feed and water.
