What was the fungal infection? So sorry you are going through this. We had a scare this summer... Bird with paralysis died (rather quickly). Was sent for necropsy, and another bird went down while we were waiting for results... For her it was much slower, but I was "sure" it was a bad strain of Mareks, was going to have to cull my babies etc. Turned out to be a fungal infection, not communicable, treatable too late for those two birds, but later found some moldy feed... With that said, moldy hay, other contaminants can cause symptoms similar to Mareks. Don't lose hope until you get results!
Can't remember the name... It was in the report, but since they said it wasn't contagious and we were reasonably sure of the source I didn't commit to memory... Was just so relieved that everything was ok with the rest of the chickens! If you need the name, I can try to find it. It is in a report, just can't remember where... We are in the process of moving, so I am terribly disorganizedWhat was the fungal infection?
When you have time a name would be nice. There are a few of us here that would like to read about it.Can't remember the name... Aspergillosis... Wasn't as hard to find as I thought... Report was in my e-mail, not hard copy. In our case, it seemed to be caused by moldy feed... Growing up, our animal feed (mainly horse feed) was stored in a chest freezer (pretty predator-proof, as we had previously had raccoons getting into the feed.) We had done this for our chickens and dogs this summer. This summer was very humid, and apparently caused condensation and ultimately some moldy dog and chicken feed. The symptoms looked very much like Mareks, but thankfully was not. Corrected the situation, and everyone is fine. If we had gotten the results sooner, the second chicken could have been treated...When you have time a name would be nice. There are a few of us here that would like to read about it.
Interesting... Didn't know that aspergillosis could look like Marek's. Thanks for the info.Aspergillosis... Wasn't as hard to find as I thought... Report was in my e-mail, not hard copy. I'm new to chicken illness, but I know Mareks can take different forms... Mine didn't have Mareks, but for clarification, the symptoms I saw were: chicken #1, petite, young, silky pullet - quick onset paralysis (was trying to move legs, but they were barely moving and she was unable to get up or move them well) died within 24 hours (she appeared ok the previous night... We found her late morning, and she was gone early evening); chicken #2, VERY vigorous easter egger - twisted neck(crazy twisted), unable to fly (but initially could move) progressing over several days to more serious paralysis. Sadly, died within hours of receiving the report. Didn't notice curled feet or eye symptoms...Interesting... Didn't know that aspergillosis could look like Marek's. Thanks for the info.
Thank you for your advice .Please read my last post. We lost Dora....Interesting... Didn't know that aspergillosis could look like Marek's. Thanks for the info.
