Hello, I'm Matt.
So 3 years ago my friend(not a friend anymore) was showing me baby chicks, and i got hooked quick.
so I built a coop, got 3 little ones (blondie, Chickie, and cuddly)
Soon after getting them I have my first big SCARE. I had never had chickens and well, my coop was way too hot. it was 100 degrees as someone had told me that they needed 100 degrees. well they all went lethargic, wouldn't eat and layed with their wings drooping. and walking like a stork.
I soon figured out the coop was too hot by asking a friend and she said it needed to be about 90 and they was overheating.
Months passed and my babies got huge!
They grew quick and soon it was time to go outside! So i built my coop with the help of a friend since i hurt myself trying to do it myself.
had a 20 lbs door fall off the coop while trying to attach it. You can find my coop build here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/my-chicken-coop.74205/
So I put my babies out in the coop and they loved it. big area, they used to love playing chase with hotdogs. (their fave treat.)
So one day 2 years after getting the chicks, I was noticing things missing from my home and decided to setup a security camera.
Lord and behold, my neighbor's boyfriend was coming in my house stealing things selling it for meth.
I'm one of them deep sleepers and he knew i sleep in the day. not anymore. now i sleep at night.
so I told his girlfriend that hes been stealing from me and showed her the videos.
she didn't believe me and started drama every other day with me to piss me off.
So i had enough and called my landlord and showed him the video....
They was evicted for it. the day after they was evicted i went out to get some eggs and 2 of my chickens (cuddly and blondie)
was laying on the ground dead, blood coming out their mouth and upon inspection necks broken.
Chickie survived the attack and only had a limp for a few days as she was able to flee the attacker(my neighbor's boyfriend out for revenge.)
hope he dies the same way some day. crewl asshole.
so after a few days being depressed and wanting to get new chickens i went to go get some and the california VND outbreak began and I could no longer get replacement chickens.
missing my girls.
Once the VND quarentine was lifted 2 years later I went and got some new baby chicks DAY 1 YAY!
Day 3 and one of my chicks stopped walking, eating or drinking. she was the cutest little chick ever.
she was a Black Star and was so beautiful
She was gasping for air and i picked her up and she went limp in my hands and died.
That was 3 days being depressed that she died.
She will be missed. I had not even named them. but she would have been named something like chocolate.
So i let the 2 left get bigger
and bigger
Bigger and bigger!
And I went to get some feed for them and while i was there they had tons of chickies 1 day old!
i decided i wanted more. so i got 3 new little chickies! a black sexlink, brown auracana and a
white chick that even the lady at the feed store didn't know what she was. i still don't know. lol
So they play in their brooder, and they get to go outside each day to play with the other big chickies!
so far they get along well. still scared to let them be alone. will wait till they are alot bigger.
sadly i cant get pictures of the new chicks atm(need to empty my phone so i got room for pics.
here is the 2 older chicks! after a few weeks brownie mix(the brown chick) did a flip flop off my desk and fell 3 feet on her head and knocked her self cold.
shes doing great now and now knows not to jump off high places LOL
this here is bear! bear is a sweet bird but very strong. if you pick her up she will knock you out with her wings and feet.
LOL
i think she is a auracana shes getting long feathers on her cheeks!!!!. but i was told she was an easter egger...............<-----these dots represent the slaps to the face of the lady at the feed store for not knowing SHIT about chickens.
this is blondie(named after my first chick that was blondie) she is really vocal girl. wish i could get a video of her.
she vibrates her beak and sounds like a turkey gobbling and boy is she loud.
she is not very strong. you can pick her up and she don't flap her wings or fight. but boy she is loud
she's tells you off till you put her down, then she just stares at you like she wants you dead... lol
these 2 chicks are out in the coop loving the new misting system i got them!
they are 3 months old! and fully feathered and getting huge quick.
in 2 days she went from not having cheek feathers to having long auracana feathers on her cheeks!
Today While checking my chickies out one of them was choaking on bread i gave them.
shes ok, and my friend said check for legions in her mouth and found out our little girl was born without a tongue!!!
This is my story so far and will grow!
I will add more as situations come about and keep it updated when i have time.
i will be adding more pics of the baby chicks once i clean out my phone. i'm lazy and a picture hoarder. lol
edit 20lbs door not 200 lol
