one of my chickens got out of its cage and came up to the house. my dad was working on his tractor and had a can of gasoline next to the mower. i went outside and a see my chicken shaking its head, gasping, and rubbing its beak on the concrete. her breath smells like gas... someone please help me!!!!!! should i try to dilute it?

There isn't much you can do. Trying to make a chicken vomit is going to be risky, and there isn't anything that will bind with and neutralize the poison. The best you can hope to do is to hope the exposure was minimal and to try to repair neurological damage with vitamin E, selenium and B-complex.

You should know in a very short time how much damage was done by how much the chicken's balance and coordination are affected. Expect some degree of lameness to occur.

This is tragic. It points out how crucial it is to be aware of chickens in the vicinity when you are using highly toxic stuff. No chicken can resist trying out any liquid they see available, especially in a puddle or bowl.

Can you get her to a vet or at least call a vet for advice asap? I think it is very serious. I saw on the human poison control website for it, they recommended a few sips of milk or water but not forcing the child to drink a lot of fluid. Don't try to induce vomiting as it looks like the biggest danger is if she aspirates it. So sorry I hope she will be okay :(

Hopefully, she just got some in her beak, shook it out, and she didn’t swallow it. Please let us know how she is getting along soon

fortunately i think that she only had a beakful than spat it out:weeshe seems to be doing fine now. the only thing that seems to be amiss is that her breath stinks. thanks for all the input though :thumbsup :D

Suggestion:
make sure water and chicken feed are available, but do not force her to eat/drink.
(you could make milk available too, in case she wants it, if that helps you feel better.)

In cases where you don't know what to do, it sometimes helps to let the chicken herself decide--after all, she's the one who really knows how she feels!
