My chicken just got attacked by my dog. HELP!!!

Do you have any Betadine? Or plain antibiotic ointment? Those are things to clean and put on the wound. Do not use peroxide anymore, since it can keep the wound from healing. Leave the wound open. Have you looked for any punctures on the sides or under the wings? Bread is not good to feed chickens. Chicken feed mixed with water and a little scramble egg are good to feed. Put it in a cereal bowl and hold it up to her beak when she is alert. Do you have any Gatorade? That can be given in a pinch for electrolytes.

Is she able to stand? Can you look at her legs to see if there is swelling, a broken bone, or any green bruising? Since she may be in shock, keep her in a dim quiet place. Later, you need to get some betadine (Equate First Aid Antiseptic) at Walmart in the bandaid aisle. Get some plain Neosporin or generic Triple Antibiotic Ointment to use on the wound after cleaning. Is she breathing okay?

I'm not sure what to do about a broken leg, but I had a hen who recently had a pretty nasty wound injury. Isolation from other chickens is key. If there's still visible blood then BluKote will cover it to prevent hens from pecking at it. Letting the wound breathe worked best for me. When you get a chance put Vetericyn on the wound a few times a day. This worked out really well for my girl and she's fully recovered now. I hope yours makes a full recovery!

Is there any broken skin on her leg? Is the leg in an odd position or weak/lame? You can use some towels rolled up to position her if needed. Tomorrow if she cannot stand, you may want to make a chicken chair or sling.

Yay! Can you put in a dropper and rub up against her beak? If you can get a bit in her and then let her rest for the night. Just make sure she has access to food and water in case she wants them. She is in shock right now.
Thank you! I got some in her mouth. She has her food, water and grit with her. She's in bed for the night. Going to check on her first thing in the morning!
Thx for your help! Keeping my fingers crossed!:)

I have something called "Triple Antibiotic Ointment" should I use that?
Okay, I won't do anymore peroxide. Yes, I have already given her Gatorade. No she cannot stand, and her one leg is sorta hanging so I'm not sure if it's broken?? She did kick it though, so is that a good sign? She seems to be breathing okay.
Should I go put some triple antibiotic on her now?

Thank you very much! I'm going to unwrap her wound then.

Okay. Yes, she was bleeding from her leg before, but she's fine now, still can't stand though.

A lot will depend on whether she suffered an internal injury. If not, odds are good that she will recover. In terms of what you can do for her with what you have on hand.

1. Make sure the wound is clean (sounds like you already did that). Check for additional wounds and, if you find any, gently wash with saline solution or just plain water.

2. Apply neosporin or triple antibiotic cream (the kind without pain relief) to the wounds, if you have some. If you don't you should be able to get some tomorrow from the nearest pharmacy or grocery store.

3. Make sure she is in a warm (like 75 to 80 degree), dry, quiet place.

4. Offer her water and scrambled eggs. If she is not eating or drinking tonight, don't panic. She is probably in shock.

5. Let her rest tonight. Let yourself rest tonight. Much of this is up to her.

6. In the morning if she is still with us, you can reassess if and what she will eat, and maybe you can get some more supplies (nutridrench, neosporin, etc.). If she is alert, but won't eat, there are ways to help encourage her.

We will be here to help. Good luck with everything.
