So one of my chickens just laid it's 5th egg this morning and I was there for the birth. She's been laying 1 a day. I'm wondering when my other hens will start laying. I have 13 hens in all and 1 rooster. I have 2 red sex links, 2 rhode island reds, 4 black copper marans, and 5 Americaunas, i got from my local tractor supply store, and I'm not sure what breed the roo is. But, hopefully the other will start laying soon. Does anyone know how to tell when they will start laying? Thanks!

I forgot to mention that they were all born right around the same time at the end of January. Except the Americaunas. They were born a couple of months later. So I'm not expecting them to lay yet.

I think most say that 22 - 24 weeks is average to begin laying. Some begin earlier and some much later. It also doesn't seem to depend on breed so much as individual chicken. When they are nearing laying you will see combs and faces become a brighter red. You may see some of the girls squatting for you (or for the rooster).

And, pardon my manners, WELCOME to BYC and Congrats on your first eggs!
