My chicken layed an egg with what looks like her innards stuck to it!

Is this possible? It looks like a tube with sacks folded in on itself with some crumbly beige colored stuff stuck on and inside. Also, the eggshell was soft.

Yes, this happened to someone else some years back. Her bird suffered no ill affects from it. Time is what will tell how this turns out. If I remember right it was part of the reproductive tract, the ovary I believe.

We actually had one of those last week. The stuff was almost rotten looking. The egg shell was soft and there was lots of innard stuff with it. I thought initially that the chicken had a prolapse because she was still in the nest when I discovered it. Upon further inspection it was not. None of the chickens have had any problems since and I have been getting 6-7 eggs per day since then, so I'm not worrying about it any more. If it was an ovary, would they still be able to lay eggs??

I'm wondering the same thing!? I'm guessing ( a big guess since I don't know what I'm talking about) that if it is actually an ovary that came out, that she still has another one, and would be able to do half of what she was doing before? I wonder what causes this?

I figured out who the soft egg and body part came from... and she laid today! The egg was soft shelled with a missing end, but it was there. Does that mean she didn't excrete her oviduct the other day? What do you think it was, then?
