My Chicken Loves Beer....

Alcohol is very damaging to a bird's liver. They have no enzymes to digest it and will cause liver damage in short order. Don't let them drink it.

I give a liver supplement to my rooster from 3 days 0.25 which having alcohol it's a 5 day course but I'm stopping today as it making them sleep more

I thought this was interesting so I went out to drink a beer and put some in a shallow bowl. 4 of my 9 chickens tried it. Only the rooster didn't care for it. Two of them guzzled it. But when they'd had enough they went about their own business. I can't see that any drank enough to cause them harm.

I remember my neighbor telling me about when she and her sister were little girls and watching the hens stagger around drunk from eating the fermented wild cherries that had fallen from the tree. They laughed and laughed. She never said anything about the chickens getting sick due to organ failure.

I say, if the hens enjoy a little nip now and again, and it tickles you to watch them, go for it.

My dad has given our dogs ice cold beer for years as a treat in the summer when it's really hot (he'll just pour them some of his own bottle onto the concrete to lap up) never enough to visibly intoxicate them. We have a golden retriever who has survived 17 years of this treatment so I don't think it's causing too much harm. :p
