My chicken math...needs some work.

I'm afraid my chicken math is starting already too. I ordered a total of 14 hens and 1 roo from a local hatchery. To get what I want (various breeds, some rare), I need to pick them up in 3 different batches spread over 5 weeks, no problem. I just picked up the first 3 yesterday, and already I am looking to add two more from a different hatchery next Saturday! I really only wanted sexed chicks, but the last 2 are straight run. I am hoping the odds are with me and I get at least 1 pullet from the two. Maybe I need more than two to make sure I get a pullet?

Luckily, my husband is out of town! I'm not sure how we got so many chicks, honey!

Wow! I started with 30 and a big coop. First experience with chickens and now this site...........You guys should be ashamed! Your feeding an addiction to all of us helpless newbies! LOL. I see another coop in the near future! All I wanted was some fresh eggs to eat and a sell for a few extra bucks!

You learn so much here! LOL I've always wanted peafowl as well as chickens (but whether I get them or not depends on how much land we get, the house hunt is NOT going good

) but my DH (a true city boy, raised in Chicago) keeps telling me they are too "exotic" and that if one gets ill it'll be impossible to find someone to doctor him. I keep trying to tell him that the country vets I have known in my life are quite knowledgable about all sorts of farm critters, but he won't believe me.

A kind person here told me to just slip a couple of young 'uns in with my chicks and then in a couple of weeks look confused and tell him someone must have made a mistake and given you the wrong kind of chickens! And even though by nature I am a pretty honest person and tend not stick to the truth, I do find myself occassionally standing in front of the mirror now practicing a "bewildered" look!

Batty, as I was reading that (and thank you by the way) my DH called, he just put an offer in, less land than we wanted (only 1/2 acre) but awesome house in awesome spot and a few chickens won't be a problem there! YAYAYAYAY!

the minute I saw her I knew she was too small but she seemed ok last night so I thought she'd make it. I feel horrible, I know it wasn't my fault but I feel just awful.

At first I was going to set 18 eggs. Then I thought what if only half hatch? So I set 40???
