Hi all!
I have a chicken, Bean, who has not laid for about a week. She normally laid every day or every other day but hasn’t for the past week. Normally we wouldn’t worry but she’s going into the coop and trying to lay every day but nothing is happening. I assumed egg bound and we’ve done Epsom salt baths, and I’ve manually checked inside her vent to make sure nothing was stuck. Her abdomen does seem more rigid today. She is eating and pooping but not as frequently as I’m used to seeing (she was attacked 6 months ago and spends the nights inside so I keep a good idea on her). She is more lethargic and would prefer to stay in longer in the morning that usual. But overall still out digging in the grass during the day. We only caught on about the egg because she spent two days in a row hollering all day long. We’ve also been giving her crushed tums. Anything else we should be doing?
I’m probably overly worried but just want to make sure I do everything I can for her.

Has it warmed up suddenly? What is the temperature there?
It was warmer last week! Around 90 one day and 80 the other days.We thought originally she was just hollering to complain about the temperature because she is def spoiled from getting to be inside. I just wasn’t sure if that was related since no one else has really changed their laying habits from what I can tell.

A jump in hot temperatures can definitely cause a chicken to stop laying and act a little off. Temperature affects each chicken differently just like it does with people. Certain breeds can also be more prone to heat issues. What breed is she?

She’s a black austrolorp!
