i have a bantam White Crested Polish who has had an injury above her vent for some time, weeks. She keeps pecking at it, and she has a friend who pecks at it. So i have isolated her inside and put Blu-kote on it twice a day for several days. But the problem is, she keeps pecking at it. When i checked on her tonight as i was putting everyone to bed, it looked like a blood bath in her cage. i thought having her inside would give her behind a chance to heal. But, no, she is just as guilty as her friend at the pecking. i don't know what to do or how to get it healed. i don't know how to keep her from pecking it back open.

Any advice or suggestions are very much appreciated.

What about using one of those lampshade type collars they put on dogs or cats to keep them from chewing themselves? Pet stores (some) carry them in very small sizes and if you can't find one small enough, examine the ones at the store & one of those thin, translucent vinyl report covers from the store and some duct tape to cover the sharp edges and make your own? I'm a pretty inexperienced chicken keeper but that's what I'd do. Good luck.

I suppose you could spray some of that blue stuff on it as long as you don't spray into the vent. What's that stuff called? It's antiseptic and the blue tint stops the picking.

Blu-kote. i have been using it twice a day for a while now. i have the one with the dauber, not the spray. It hasn't stopped Ludwig from pecking her own bottom, or her friend Matilda from pecking her bottom. i, however, have the loveliest of purple fingers.
