I have a chicken that has been sitting on her nest since March 9 she has six eggs and all of them have hatched but one they started hatching on April 2 and the last one hatched on the seventh I still have one egg left to hatch my question is is there anyway to tell if the baby has died or not I have held it up to a light and can see the air pocket and I'm not really for sure when all the eggs were laid because I didn't know she was setting and a Nother chicken was laying eggs in there with her I just don't want her sitting on an egg if there is no baby any help would be greatly appreciated

I would remove the remaining egg and toss it.
Mama has left nest with chicks to show them where to eat and drink?

She actually is still sitting on the egg that's why I'm hesitant about removing the egg from her I really would like to be able to check it to make sure before I toss it

You can candle the egg . The fact she is still sitting on the egg six days after the last one hatched is kind of amazing . You can also do a warm water float test . Just fill a bowl with 99 degree water and stick the egg in it. if alive you will know it . Do it close to the nest and have a towel to dry it and put it back if it is . She will know when it's time to give it up .

Where are the chicks she already hatched? Did you take them away from her? I'm guessing you did or she'd be off the nest with them by 2-3 days. If so, you know she may not take them back.

Float test can be risky, they are not always actively moving even if still alive.

They are still with her I took the egg away from her today I figured it up and today was day 29 so I'm guessing there is nothing in there
