My chickens are broken

I'll admit, this is the first time we've had this breed but, out of all the breeds we've had for the last 4 decades, I've never known one to go 23 weeks without laying an egg.

not broken- just taking their time. they will lay whenever they are ready! two of my girls are at least 27 weeks and still haven’t laid their first egg. depending on where you’re from, it could be the change of weather- i don’t expect my girls to lay until early spring. the more you want them to lay, the more stubborn they are and the longer they will take

If it’s colder out they might take a little longer. I have some girls due to start laying in December but I don’t think that’s gonna happen  they’re super spoiled and babied anyway so they probably know they could get away with never laying an egg.

Our winters are very mild. We live in the high desert and it doesn't get cold until mid January.

Australorp. We've had everything from RIR to Marans and back to Wellingtons and everything in between in the las 40 or so years.
Have they all been this age at this time of year?
Pullets that reach POL later in the year can be slow to come 'online' due to short days.
