We have been dealing with a minor infestation of mice. A bunch of traps later, we are getting close to having it under control, but there are still a lot of droppings about. Today, I was cleaning off some storage containers and mouse poop fell of them. A few minutes later, I was surprised and a little grossed out to see a couple of my chickens had come over to where I had been working and were methodically seeking out and eating the mouse poop. I first I hoped they were eating some grass seeds or something, but I watched them and it was most definitely mouse poop they were after. Since there have been so many mice in and around their coop, storage shed and yard, I have to assume they have eaten A LOT of mouse poop at this point.
This may be a silly question, but I'm assuming it won't hurt them, or somehow contaminate their eggs (the mice are deer mice, which can carry hantavirus, and who knows what else). Out of concern for the chickens, we have not used any poisons when dealing with the mice, so it is "organic" mouse poop.
