my chickens are getting close to laying.

My question is this; I bought 30 hens about 3.5 months ago, Don't remember exactly. I was amazed they made it through the snowy part, or the end of the snow season here in Texas. Any how, 30 hens, I only built 6 nesting boxes, at this time. How many do I really need for 30 hens?

Many people say you need one for every 4-5 hens you keep but I don't agree with this. Not enough nests can lead to squabbles and fights. I would try and put one for every 1-3 you own.

I was dreading building 30! Mine are GSL hens. Bought 30 in hopes that most would make it through the end of winter. They all made it. I took good care of them. They free range my back yard, keep the bugs down. Soon they will lay eggs. Going to build a real chicken coop soon. They have a good home now but it was meant to be temporary.
They are pecking at my three baby peacocks, so the peacocks are caged up for their protection. when they get larger I will let them go free as well.
